The end is near for FLASHPOINT.

It was announced today that the Canadian produced series Flashpoint would be ending at the end of its 5th season. The following message was posted on their Facebook page.

Today we announced to our cast and crew that this will be our final season of FLASHPOINT. While still at our creative apex, we’ve decided to conclude the series on a high note. This will allow us to give our fans the satisfaction of a fitting series conclusion with our 75th, and final, episode. Producing FLASHPOINT over the past five seasons has been an exceptional adventure, and we are extremely grateful to all of you for being with us every step of the way. We hope that by announcing this now, you’ll be able to enjoy the fifth season to the utmost, and properly say goodbye to Team 1 along with all of us.

 

Flashpoint debuted on CBS and CTV in July of 2008. Although it bounced around the CBS schedule during its run, in 2011 it was moved to ION Television. In Canada, Flashpoint continued to be success on CTV.

The 5th season has been ordered on both CTV and ION and will air in October 2012.

CTV in Canada has already renewed the drama for a 5th season consisting of 13 episodes. Now today, it has been announced that ION has also picked it up for the same order.

The Canadian-produced drama is the most watched drama series in its homeland on CTV. Since moving from CBS to ION, Flashpoint has been growing in the ratings in the United States.

Season 5 is set to begin production in February of 2012. Are you happy Flashpoint will be back in Canada and The U.S. ?

Bell Media has purchased the Canadian rights to the new FX comedy Anger Management. This means that Canadians will be able to view the new Charlie Sheen series, as it airs on FX in the U.S., on CTV.

Canada is the first country to strike a deal with FX.

It’s no surprise CTV will be the home of Charlie Sheen’s new comedy. Two and a Half Men has been one of the network’s top rated series.

Anger Management will debut on FX and CTV sometime in 2012.

Late last week, the Canadian network quietly cancelled two of their homegrown comedies. Dan for Mayor and Hiccups were both cancelled after their 2nd seasons.

Today, it was reported by TV Guide Canada that So You Think You Can Dance Canada has also been cancelled. The season finale aired on CTV last week.

Under the previous deal, Canadian networks were obligated to have at least 8 hours of Canadian content in their Primetime schedules (8 pm – 11 pm ET).

In the new deal however, Canadian networks will be able to move their Canadian content to their ‘sister-networks’ or ‘specialty networks’ they own.

Let’s take Global TV for example, which is owned by Shaw. Under the old deal, Global TV had to air at least 8 hours per week of Canadian content. But now Global TV has the option to move their Canadian content to a network like Showcase, which Shaw also owns.

This may mean that we will be seeing less and less Canadian content on the main Canadian networks.

The argument for this ruling is that networks can make more money in ad-sales from re-broadcasting American content. After all, most of the networks’ top rated shows come from The U.S.

The network has renewed their hit series Flashpoint for a fifth season. Flashpoint has been airing on both CTV and CBS (time-delayed).

Also renewed by the Canadian network, The Listener will be returning for its third season.

CTV also announced that they have ordered two new Canadian pilots. Saving Hope stars former Smallville star Erica Durance, and Stay With Me. Both new series enter production this summer.

CTV will be releasing their full 2011-2012 schedules on Thursday. Be sure to tune in.
