Comic-Con 2011: The Vampire Diaries Panel

Here’s what you missed at The Vampire Diaries panel at Comic-Con 2011:

  • After a special sizzle reel created for Comic-Con, the moderator starts off the panel by asking which deaths were especially hard for the writers/actors. Kevin Williamson says that Jenna’s death was hardest for him. Ian Somerhalder chimes in and says that ”its one of those things, you become so close to people and reading about when Vicki dies was heartbreaking. Seeing it and being there was worse.”
  • It happened to be Paul Wesley’s birthday, so the audience, with the help of Somerhalder, sang Happy Birthday for him. Wesley doesn’t like all the attention, so he changes the subject and talks about how he’s happy to get to play a darker side of Stefan.
  • Nina Dobrev doesn’t want to choose between Katherine and Elena: ”I get the best of both worlds. I get to be the bad girl, the good girl. Have flashbacks, bite people. I can’t pick one because they are both challenging and awesome. They’ll kill me one day.”
  • Somerhalder mentions that he doesn’t enjoy night exterior shoots in Atlanta because it’s usually very cold. He ends his statement with “Am I crazy?”. A fan yells out, “No, you’re hot!”
  • What other character would they like to play?

Joseph Morgan: Damon, because he’s having all the fun.

Somerhalder: Klaus

Paul Wesley: Klaus

Candice Accola: “I like being Caroline”

  • Damon or Stefan? Williamson responds: ”At the end of the season Elena says it’s okay to love both of them.”
  • A fan asks for Paul Wesley’s name sign. After he gives it to her, Paul remarks that he feels naked without it. Ian hands over his name sign to Paul and jokes, “here take a better one”.
  • Nina refuses to pick a ‘team’: ”The problem is half the room would get mad if I said one, half if I said the other. The beauty of this situation is I don’t have to choose.”
  • Nina reveals that Justin Beiber wanted to be on the show.
  • Final fan question asks Ian what he would change about Damon: ”I wouldn’t change a damn thing about Damon.”
  • The panel ends with each person pulling out shirts that have a different ‘team’ on it. The writers can’t choose a side, so their shirts say Stefan, Damon, Katherine, Elena, Klaus and Caroline.
