TVDoneWright.com “Best Of” Tournament: Sitcoms – And the Winner is…

The greatest of all time.

We’ve all had the discussion. We’ve all heard the phrase thrown around on more than one occasion. And to many, including us here at TVDoneWright.com, it’s fascinating.

It makes for an interesting debate, and an endless one at that. One that has been, and will be discussed forever.

And here at TVDoneWright, it’s our turn to make a contribution to the argument.

The world of television is filled with great television shows. For every show that was cancelled after a season (or less) and every show that never got off the editing floor, there are classics. Gems that we as television writers, and more importantly viewers, grew up with.

Sometimes you enjoy a show, as a way to distract you from daily life. To take a break. What most of us don’t realize is that the show becomes more a part of your daily life than you really realize, until it’s gone that is.

Shows, in a way, shape you. They become part of your identity of who you are. They relate to where you were during their time period, be it personally, or professionally.

But just what is, the greatest show of all time? Well, to be honest, that question is a little broad, and there really is no way to figure something like that out.

But we can try. At least, on a smaller scale.

Starting Monday TVDoneWright is set to unveil a new feature called “The Greatest Television Sitcom Of All Time” tournament, which will be played out bracket style over the course of the next month or so on the site.

Our writers have brainstormed their list of the best 64 television sitcoms ever. Then, they were randomly drawn into pairings. Each week readers of the site will have the opportunity to vote on which show they think is the better sitcom. This process will be repeated until we have narrowed the field from 64 to 1: The Greatest Television Sitcom Of All Time.

Here’s a bit of a breakdown. Starting Monday the 16th, we will unveil the first eight matchups, followed by eight more each day. By Thursday, all match-ups will be posted. Readers of the site will have all week to vote on which show they think wins the match up as the better sitcom. Voting for the first round closes on Sunday August 22nd.

The following Monday (23rd) we will reveal the first half of the final sixteen matchups. The second set will be released on Wednesday. Once again voters will have a week to will their favourite sitcoms to victory in the ultimate last television show standing battle. Voting for round two closes on August 29th.

On August 30th we will reveal the “Elite Eight” television sitcoms who made it into the third round of voting. Readers will have all week long to vote on which sitcoms they thing are worthy of reserving a spot in the Final Four! Voting for this round closes on September 5th.

On Monday September 6th the first pair of the Final Four will be announced, followed by the second pair on Wednesday. As you guessed, readers will have all week long to vote their favourite sitcoms into the FINALS, which will begin the following week. Once again, voting for this round ends September 12th.

Then, on September 13th, we will reveal the two television sitcoms made it to the finals, the two shows you feel worthy of the crown of “Greatest Television Sitcom Of All Time.” Like the previous two rounds voting will go for the entire week, and close on the Sunday, September 19th, the grand champion, and Greatest Television Sitcom Of All Time will be announced the following Monday, September 20th!
