The Kids in the Hall: Death Comes To Town Recap: “Who Mailed Our Mayor?”

By: Adrian Sannen

Episode 2 of Kids in the Hall: Death Comes to Town followed the formula of any murder mystery show…the only difference is that ‘Death Comes to Town’ is hilarious. In this episode the bumbling moronic cops, seen in the original series, go around looking for the real murderer. They question the mayor’s wife but come to the conclusion that she “…put on a little weight, and it looks good on her.”

The weather lady and the main news reporter get into an anchorman-esque dispute because the weather lady “Heather Weather” wants her time to read the news. She got her time but just couldn’t stop talking about the weather. In sadder news (how’s that for reporting) the mayor was found with his head inside of the mailbox. His wife explained to their adopted and special son that he was trying to “mail himself to heaven.”  Very hilarious performance by Dave Foley.

Death is determined to take the life of Ricky, the morbidly obese former hockey star. Death keeps ordering pizzas and sending them over to Ricky’s house. Ricky however, declines the pizza when he finds out that the mayor (his former hockey coach) is dead. He had been talking in the first episode about how he wants to get back in shape and play hockey again. The origin of his over eating is that he was captain of the Shuckton hockey team but decided to have sex before the game. He couldn’t stand as he had wasted all of his energy. This drove him to the life of over eating and laziness.

The camera is on the police in an interview with the news cast all present…but they know just as much as our moronic cops do.

This was a great 2nd episode. I think the kids in the hall will be hard pressed to stay consistent for 8 episodes. But I hope I’m surprised. On a TVdoneWright 10 point scale, I give this an 8
