Everyone was eager to see Canadian comedy legends Kids in the Hall return, but a lot of them were unsure if a return would be funny.  Well, I am happy to report that after viewing their first episode of the 8 part series “Death comes to town” that it is hilarious! Vintage Kids in the Hall!

The Mayor (Bruce McCulloch) of a small town in Canada called “Shuckton” made a pitch for his town to get the 2028 summer Olympics. After not receiving the Olympics, the mayor was murdered. This sets up the classic who-done-it murder mystery. There were a lot of people who could have done it. The mayor seemed well liked, but in one hilarious scene, he went into a diner, ate peoples meals and made out with somebody’s girlfriend.

In classic kids in the hall form, they also play most of the female characters, including Kevin McDonald who plays a dimwitted pizza delivery woman. Dave Foley plays the mayors wife who is the prime suspect, but too obvious to be the real killer… Mark McKinney plays death…and does a fine job of it. There were some really funny gags about his very skimpy attire…For example; he keeps his credit card in a zipper on his leather underpants.  Also a very funny character is the mayor’s “special” adopted son…I know I shouldn’t laugh at the expense of a mentally disabled child, but this was done in a tasteful and more aloof way than, say Johnny Knoxville’s “The Ringer”…but I won’t go into that abomination now.

This was truly an enjoyable first episode…and you can tell it’s good when all of their characters made me laugh at least once…stellar performance from Dave Foley, Kevin McDonald, Bruce McCulloch, Mark McKinney, and Scott Thompson. As always they compliment each other so very well. I trust that they will continue this.

On a TVDoneWright.com 10 point scale I give this episode, my highest rating ever, 8.9!
