CBS is planning on launching a spinoff of their hit series Criminal Minds. Now they are in the final stages of negotiations to signing their lead.
The new Criminal Minds spinoff will star Oscar winner Forest Whitaker.
Whitaker will play Cooper. He’s described as “a dynamic, mysterious, charming and a father figure to the rest of the team, he is a former star profiler in the Behavioral Unit, who has been off the radar for the last eight years.”
His character will be introduced in an episode of Criminal Minds this spring, which will launch the potential spinoff.
It’s important to note that even though a spinoff is planned, a network must pick it up after a pilot episode is made. So there’s a long road ahead still for this new spinoff. Although acquiring this big name doesn’t hurt its chances.
