Survivor Samoa Recap: This is Good…

By Tim Wilkins

This was another great episode for me.  I love the fact the underdogs are playing the game and the former Galu members continue to turn on one another.  As Erik said during the Tribal Council voting to Kelly,’ this is good . . . (fill in the blank here.)”  I assume its four letters and rhymes with hit.

After last week’s bold play by Russell to save his own hide and played his 2nd Immunity Idol to vote out a stunned Kelly.  Dave gives Russell for his ‘bold move’ and ‘kudos.’  Laura thinks Russell is ‘sneaky.’  What took you so long I ask her?   Love or hate him, Russell has played the game of ‘Survivor’ well.

Russell and Shambo are laughing at what Laura said after the vote at the last Tribal Council.  Shambo even says she’ll give Russell the Idol if she finds it just so she can get Laura.  I find that funny and ruthless from Shambo, who comes across as all good and down home country girl, but even Russell is getting her to play this game.

A new day dawns and we’re down to 10 members.  Russell is up early and looking for the hidden Immunity Idol.  Shambo calls Laura the “Viper Queen of Galu.”  Shambo also tells Jon she’s voting Laura out next.

At the Reward Challenge, two teams of five are divided and play a game.  Team Purple consists of Natalie being led by Jaison, Brett, Dave, Laura, and Russell.  Team Yellow is Jon being led by Jaison, Jon, Mick, Monica, and Shambo.

Team Purple wins and gets a plane trip to another island with a picnic lunch.  When that team arrives at their picnic site, Natalie and Russell drop to their knees and give thanks.  Both are starving.  Remember, Natalie ate a rat last week she was so hungry.  This time Natalie chewed down hot dogs.  It’s always an animal.

The winning team also gets a written clue and video clue about the hidden Immunity Idol.  Back at camp, Mick and Jaison are relaxing and trying to rope Monica in owns their Foa Foa alliance with Shambo.  Monica wants the name of the traitor and tries to get the boys to spill, but they don’t say who.  I find it funny or ironic that those 2 guys choose to scheme instead of looking for that hidden Idol.  Are they waiting for Russell to find it for him?  Come on Mick and Jaison, play the game whole heartedly like Russell.

The winning team comes back to camp and Russell takes off with Jaison to look for the hidden Immunity Idol.  Laura and Dave follow them.  Russell runs ahead and loses Laura, Dave, and Jaison.   As luck would have it, Russell finds his 3rd Hidden Immunity Idol.  Does this guy have the best luck or what?  Kudos Russell.  I hope he wins the million dollars.  He’s playing a heck of a game.

Monica is telling Laura about her earlier Mick and Jaison alliance talk.  She mentions Shambo as selling Laura out.  Monica then decides to throw Jon under the bus in the hopes of saving Laura first and foremost.

At the Immunity Idol Challenge, the 10 members have 1 throw with a stone to break tile.  The only 4 to move forward is Brett, Mick, Jaison, and Monica.  Brett gets to throw his arrow first and hit the bull’s eye.  Brett hits the mark while Jaison and Monica’s miss the target.  Mick out marks Brett and Brett gets to throw 2 arrows because his rock toss hit 2 tiles.  Brett loses to Mick, who wins his 1st Immunity.

Did anyone else notice how Shambo burst out laughing when Laura missed her rock throw?   Ole Shambo almost doubled over in the pain from laughing so hard.  I found it funny too Shambo.  Ole Laura knew she was a possible target and had previously won the last 2 Immunity Idol Challenges.

At camp, everyone’s scrambling to out wit the others.  We have Russell actually keeping quiet about his found Hidden Idol and gunning for Laura with Shambo.  Brett, Monica, Dave, and Laura want to use Jon as a scapegoat and those four decide to vote Jon, but tell Russell’s side that it’ll be Laura.  In the end, even Jeff Probst knows there will be a tie if their chosen alliances stay strong.  Jeff even points out the fact before the vote and says he’s looking forward to it.  I am too!

Erik and Kelly enter to represent the jury or as I like to call them, Blindside Number One and Two.  After the first vote, Laura and Natalie both have five votes.  Jeff tells them all will vote except for Laura and Natalie.  Erik turns to Kelly in the jury and says, “This is good. . .”  It was funny and exactly what I was thinking.

In the next vote, Laura got 6 votes to Natalie’s 3.  Both Jon and Shambo turned on their former Galu alliance.  Great play!  Dave’s jaw dropped at the reveal.  Jon sat cool as a cucumber.  Laura left.  The “Viper Queen’ is dead.  Ding Dong.  What a great episode.  What did you think?  Are you rooting for Russell to win?  Who’s playing the game best for you?  See you next week.  Who knows, maybe they’ll blindside a 4th next week!
