CBS Pulls-Back on Plan To Cut Eight Emmy Categories From the Broadcast
It looks like the eight categories that were supposed to be cut out of the televised broadcast will make it to the live event.
After a huge firestorm, CBS has pulled-back on their plan to time-shift the Emmys, meaning the eight categories in question will be awarded on the air.
The categories are: best movie and best miniseries; writing for drama series and writing for movie/miniseries; directing for movie/miniseries and directing for variety, music and comedy series; and supporting actor and actress in TV movie/miniseries.
CBS stated that they wanted to make the Emmys “more relevant to the mainstream viewers”.
However, the proposed plan was slammed by the WGA, DGA, SAG, and the cable networks. Also over 100 of TV’s top writers issue a protest against the move.
Now it looks like we will be seeing these awards televised when the Emmys air on September 20th, on CBS.
